4 Tips for Finding the Perfect Wedding Dress

1. Consider Your Venue + Time of Year
Knowing the location of your wedding is key to knowing the type of dress to look for. The style of your dress should be appropriate for the type of ceremony venue. Heavy fabrics with long trains may not be the best choice for a beach or destination wedding and would be a better option for a church ceremony. In addition, the time of year is also a factor to consider. Light, flowy dresses are more suitable for summer weddings or in warmer climates while heavier fabrics are best in winter.
2. Keep an Open Mind
Try not to be discouraged if you try on a style you saw in a magazine and realize it doesn't look the way you imagined it would. That is often the case! Many dresses look great in photos but look completely different once you try them on. Most bridal shops will tell you to keep an open mind and to try on styles you wouldn't normally look twice at. But that really is the best way to find the right one. Don't limit yourself by only trying on gowns with lace when you may fall in love with a satin gown or a mermaid style instead of a ball gown. There are so many styles and options to choose from. Have fun with it, this is your moment to shine!

3. Set a Budget
Determine a budget or price range you are comfortable spending on a dress. Keep in mind you may need to allow for extras such as alterations, undergarments, shoes, and a veil or other hair accessories. Do some research on what dresses cost online and in your local bridal shops. If you are on a tight budget, dresses on consignment may be an option to consider. Pre-owned wedding dresses are a cost effective way to save money that you can put towards other wedding expenses. It doesn't hurt to shop around and compare prices before you say yes to the dress!
4. Start Early
Once you have your wedding venue and budget set, it is a good idea to begin dress shopping! Ideally you want to start looking for a dress at least six to nine months before the wedding date. Shopping early will ensure you are not rushed into making a quick decision. You'll be able to take your time and try on a variety of styles until you find the perfect one. Once you do, you'll need to place an order early because it can sometimes take up to 4-6 months before it arrives. Once it does arrive, you'll need time to try it on and have several fittings and possibly alterations before the big day to get that perfect showstopping fit!

This could be the most confusing and hard to decide to what kind of wedding dress that the bride will wear, I guess. It is also ideal that your wedding dress also fits the theme of the weddingevent venue.

Thank you for explaining that knowing the venue of your wedding is key to identifying the type of dress to look for since the style of your dress should be suitable for the type of ceremony venue. I'm helping my friend with her wedding preparations. I must look for a wedding dress boutique that offers a wide selection of designs so my friend can pick the best one.
